US reinsurance broker Tradition Re completed a $4mn derivative dutch auction on 2 March to hedge an unnamed reinsurer's Florida wind exposure, in the first transaction of its kind.

Tradition brokered the auction, in which protection sellers - including (re)insurers and financial markets participants - submitted prices at which they would sell the CME Hurricane Index (CHI) Florida Seasonal Accumulated binary option with a CHI value of 22.
