2010 Annual Review: Life market revival

On the surface, there was nothing to suggest that 2010 changed anything for the life ILS market, which was brought to a skidding halt by the financial crisis.

Public life ILS issuance for 2010 was just $225mn, compared to annual sales of $5bn-$6bn in 2006 and 2007.

All of the 2010 sales came from Swiss Re extreme mortality bonds under its Vita series, providing protection against pandemics.
