S&P raises life settlement securitisation concerns

Ratings agency Standard & Poor's (S&P) has highlighted concerns over life settlement securitisations (LSS).

The agency - which doesn't currently rate the products - questioned the actuarial assumptions underpinning transactions, the accuracy of independent medical reviews, conflicting legal opinion on insurable interest, the track record of originators, and timing of cash flows. LSS involve the purchase of life insurance policies from individuals, typically aged 65 and older, who have a lowered projected life expectancy of two to 10 years due...
