AIR shrinks Maria loss estimate by 40%

AIR Worldwide has slashed its range of loss estimates for Hurricane Maria to $27bn-$48bn, down from an initial $40bn-$85bn range.

It put losses in Puerto Rico between $25bn and $43bn.

The estimates are still higher than the $15bn to $30bn range put out by rival modelling firm RMS.

AIR Worldwide said that the significant drop in the upper end of its estimate was driven mainly by a review of the storm's intensity over the US commonwealth.
