Alex losses ‘below $200mn’

Insured losses from Hurricane Alex are not expected to exceed $200mn, according to modelling firm AIR Worldwide.

Alex made landfall in north-eastern Mexico in the early hours of Thursday morning (1 July), striking the coast with winds of 105 miles per hour (169 km/h).

The category 2 hurricane was similar in intensity to Hurricane Dolly, which hit southern Texas in July 2008 and caused $500mn of insured damage.

Nevertheless, AIR does not expect insurance losses to be greater than $200mn...
