Bridging the gap

One of the major post-HIM talking points in reinsurance circles was the question of whether there was a gap in loss estimates recognised by individual carriers and the overall anticipated industry burden.

The fear was that some individual carriers might have been too optimistic in initial assessments of their losses and that - as happened after Katrina, Rita and Wilma in 2005 - the claims burden would gradually creep up.

For now it seems that the HIM losses are trending...
