Canopius considers ILS support as it de-risks cat book

Canopius is considering setting up a Bermudian sidecar as it looks to reduce its catastrophe exposure following a management buyout from Sompo this month.

Centerbridge, Gallatin Point Capital and management backed the $952mn buyout from Sompo.

The company's chairman Michael Watson told sister publication The Insurance Insider that its previous owner had viewed the business as a vehicle to expand its catastrophe risk.
