Club deals mark the September season

Two "club" cat bonds circulated privately to a limited group of investors in September have added to the debate over the direction of the bond market.

The latest club deal, Hoplon Ltd, illustrated how the private route could be used for innovation, introducing a new peril to the market - jackpot winnings. It joins a select group of more esoteric risk to be accepted by the capital markets (see table).
