Irene triggers $20mn CHI payout
Hurricane Irene triggered a $20mn payout from a reinsurance derivative contract linked to the CME Hurricane Index (CHI), Trading Risk understands.
The contract provided second event cover triggering on a CHI index value of 4.
Hurricane Irene made two landfalls over the US in early September, crossing first in North Carolina with a CHI value of 5.1 before making landfall for the second time in New Jersey with a CHI value of 4.2.
