First 2011 hurricane futures trades

Trading platform IFEX has cleared a $1mn hurricane futures contract for the 2011 season, highlighting early speculation on next year's windstorm activity.

Trading Risk understands that the $1mn US wind deal was placed in three tranches by broker Willis.

One $500,000 trade cleared on Friday (24 September), for a $60bn US first-event contract at a rate on line (RoL) of 8.75 percent. Two further $250,000 trades of $50bn first-event contracts were placed today (27 September) at a 10.75 percent RoL...
