The mooted arrival of German property and casualty giant Munich Re in the longevity (re)insurance space could be read as a strong endorsement of this burgeoning market's potential.

In March, life and pensions specialist Legal & General announced that it would be offering cover to defined UK pension benefit schemes, while Hannover Re recently described the longevity risk transfer market as the "key to growth for property and casualty reinsurers".
