Haiti earthquake expected to trigger CCRIF payouts

Early indications show that the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) will face payouts as a result of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday (12 January).

CCRIF said that the initial magnitude and location estimates from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) suggested that a payout would be triggered.

Haiti's worst quake in two centuries - of magnitude 7.0 - hit south of the capital Port-au-Prince, wrecking the presidential palace, UN HQ and other buildings.
