Hurricane Earl strengthens to cat 4

The fifth named storm of the 2010 North Atlantic hurricane season strengthened to a category 4 hurricane overnight (30 August) as it tracks northwest past Puerto Rico.

Earl currently has a CME Hurricane Index (CHI) value of 11.9, according to broker TigerRisk's strom tracker service and is predicted to reach a value of 13 by the end of the day. It is currently registered category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
