Back in September 2008 while aperitifs were served at the Rendez-Vous in Monte Carlo, Hurricane Ike was approaching the US Gulf coast and its forecast track and intensity were making some cat investors very nervous.

As early as 10 days before Ike made landfall, offers and bids of capacity were floating around (mostly for $15bn to $25bn Texas only or Texas-Louisiana triggers).

However, the sweet spot for "livecat" trading execution is usually just a few days before the expected landfall...
