Longevity de-risking set to rise

Reinsurers are the "natural home" for longevity risk but Swiss Re has called for them to act now in order to address the problem of providing for an increasingly long-lived population.

Swiss Re's recent report on longevity funding said that more reinsurance capacity would be needed to handle rising demand from pension funds to protect themselves against this risk.

As many as one in four FTSE100 companies will complete substantial risk hedging deals for their pension schemes by the end...
