Reinsurance continues to entice hedge funds

SAC Re CEO Simon Burton says the key to the firm's successful fundraising has been repackaging its combination of (re)insurance and investment risk to appeal to investors dissatisfied with the currency on offer from traditional reinsurers.

The firm became the third hedge fund-backed reinsurer launch of 2012 as it finally began underwriting early this month with $500mn of capital and an A- AM Best rating, in a move first revealed by this publication last year.
