More than $30bn of industry loss warranty (ILW) capacity has been traded since 2003, representing approximately $4.5bn of premium changing hands between reinsurers and counterparties over the seven-year period.

Despite strong market growth post-Hurricane Katrina, the sector is still small in comparison to the traditional catastrophe reinsurance market - with its estimated $200bn in annual deployed capacity.
