Storm forecasts eased after slow start to hurricane season

Forecaster Weather Services International (WSI) has downgraded its forecasts for the 2010 hurricane season after a relatively quiet June and July.

WSI now predicts there will be a total of 19 named storms this season, down from 20 and still well ahead of the long-term average of 10 named storms. It expects 11 hurricanes and five intense (Category 3 or greater) hurricanes to hit in what is expected to be an extremely active August-October period.
