Storm forecasts eased, but six storms on horizon

Meteorologists have eased their forecasts after a subdued start to the US hurricane season, although all continue to predict another heavy year.

Downgrades to total storm forecasts were made at US government agency the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), at Weather Services International (WSI) and at Tropical Storm Risk (Aon Benfield's UCL Hazard Research Centre).

But Colorado State University academics Philip Klotzbach and William (Bill) Gray maintained their previous forecasts for the season.
