Sweltering weather fans increased derivative trading

A sultry summer in the US has fanned weather derivatives trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).

Average daily volumes increased by 51 percent in Q2 2010 compared to Q2 2009, to reach an average 2,047 weather derivative contracts traded daily.
