Will the ILS market look back on 2012 as the year that it "arrived" in the wider reinsurance sector? Brokers certainly seem to have been rolling out the red carpet to alternative market capital this year - even without a major catastrophe forcing their hand.

Guy Carpenter's vice chairman David Priebe recently said that the market had hit a "watershed moment" that entrenched its strategic position in the reinsurance market.
