UPC recovers $142mn from XOL reinsurers on 2020 storms

Ceded losses at United Insurance Holdings (UPC) rose by $96mn to $645mn last year from $549mn in 2019, an increase of 17.5% year-on-year, the Floridian insurer has said.

The increased ceded losses were mostly the result of thirteen named storms that made landfall in the US in 2020, a record year for Atlantic hurricane activity, according to the company’s annual report filed on Tuesday night.
