World Bank South American bond will not renew after $1.4bn deal lapsed

The World Bank will not renew its $1.36bn Capital at Risk cat bond protecting South American countries against natural disasters, the last tranches of which came off risk last month, industry sources have said.

The multi-national South American cat bond, which the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) launched in 2018, had five tranches, covering earthquakes in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, all using parametric per occurrence triggers.
