Major flaws in Enhanced Fujita tornado rating system, expert warns

The Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale for rating tornado intensity has “major flaws” when measuring the speed of twisters that cause minimal damage, according to Andrew Siffert, senior vice president and meteorologist at BMS.

Siffert made the comments in an article for the firm in which he noted that no top-of-the-scale EF-5 tornados had been observed in the US since 2013.
