AM Best: $1.4bn Chinese flood loss will be ‘manageable’ for non-life carriers

Record rainfall and flooding in Henan, China will be a manageable event for domestic non-life insurers, with early reports pegging the loss quantum at 9.2bn renminbi ($1.4bn), according to AM Best.

The ratings agency noted that the flooding that struck the area in mid-July could become the country’s largest-ever insured loss event, surpassing the record cat loss of $1bn from Typhoon Fitow in 2013.
