Fee income from ILS platforms ‘significant’ to reinsurers

Reinsurers’ have grown fee income from alternative capital platforms to be a significant contributor to profitability, with six firms earning $494mn combined in 2020, Moody’s Investors Service said in a Global Reinsurance report.

The highest earners were Markel’s Nephila Capital and RenaissanceRe’s collection of sidecars and collateralised reinsurance vehicles, which made up the lion’s share of the total.
