Florida five’s Q3 figures reveal market’s challenges

Three out of the five listed Floridian carriers that have reported Q3 figures decreased their losses ceded to reinsurers in a less active hurricane season, but prior year development and Hurricane Ida still meant sizeable claims were transferred to their reinsurer partners in some cases.

The exception to the general trend of lower ceded losses was FedNat, which passed on $563mn or more than double its figure of $201mn in Q3 2020, as Ida took a heavier toll on the firm than 2020 storms.
