Karen Clark & Company (KCC) has said the lack of hail damage from the 10 December US tornadoes and their path through smaller townships contributed to the direction of its initial $3bn loss estimate for the disaster.

The firm earlier today released the first official loss estimate for the disaster, including the 200-mile-long quad-state tornado.
