Japanese cedants are pushing for commission increases on their vast earthquake quota share reinsurance covers at 1 April, as the influence of the historic 2011 Tohoku disaster finally recedes.

On Japanese wind excess-of-loss (XoL) contracts, sources are pointing towards likely risk-adjusted rate increases across programmes of around 5%, as the steep rate increases implemented after severe typhoon losses in 2018 and 2019 taper away.
