The probability of a major volcanic eruption is much higher than previously thought, while levels of preparedness are low, new research from the University of Cambridge’s Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) showed.

The researchers claimed the chances of a volcanic eruption of magnitude 7 or higher striking this century is one in six, in a paper published in science journal Nature.
